CAF Dixie Wing WWII Heritage Days Celebrates the 1940s, Salutes The Greatest Generation

2017 marks 75th Anniversaries of the Doolittle Raid and Battle of Midway

Salute the Greatest Generation and celebrate all things 1940s during the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing 14th annual “WWII Heritage Days”, April 22-23, 2017.  The history festival will take place at the CAF Dixie Wing Historical Airpower Facility, Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field, Peachtree City, Ga.

Over the last thirteen years WWII Heritage Days has become a can’t miss experience for anyone who enjoys nostalgia, big band music, swing dance, historic aircraft and military vehicles, antique cars and vintage fashion.  The program features reenactors portraying Axis and Allied troops, sailors, airmen and Women Army Service Pilots (WASP).

“The mission of the Commemorative Air Force is education through the preservation of World War II aircraft and the stories of the men and women who built and flew them,” said Jay Bess, CAF Dixie Wing leader. “WWII Heritage Days is a living history classroom.”
World War II veterans, guest speakers and authors will provide a unique and personal glimpse into the men and women who changed history.
On Saturday evening, the romance and glamour of the Big Band years will return during “Keep ‘em Flying”, a 1940s-theme hangar dance fundraiser featuring The Peachtree Jazz Edition, an 18- piece swing band. The evening is set in the CAF Dixie Wing flying museum, decorated to recreate the mood of the era.  Black tie, uniforms or 1940s attire encouraged!

WWII Veteran Invitations
The theme of WWII Heritage Days is salute The Greatest Generation, celebrate the 1940s and inspire all ages to preserve the legacy of America’s veterans.  The Veterans Administration estimates there are less than 700,000 World War II veterans alive today.  We are working with the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Georgia Department of Veterans Affairs and the local Honor Flight community to distribute letters of invitation to World War II veterans throughout the state of Georgia.  Last year over 30 veterans attended the weekend.

Participant registration now open. Click HERE.
Registration is now open for Allied, Axis and Home Front reenactors, military vehicle and antique car owners, exhibitors and vendors.  As always, registered participants are eligible for complimentary breakfast, lunch, water and volunteer dance ticket prices.  For reenactor and volunteer tickets, call 678-654-2464.
